On a 5-kilometer road in Tongxiang, "newbies" are testing their vehicles every day!

"Third test, go."

The on-site test engineer gives the command over the walkie-talkie, and the test vehicle speeds up on a 1800-meter four-lane road at a speed of 120 km/h, approaching the impact point, automatically turning on the hazard lights, and automatically making an emergency lane change, "Whoosh!" Successfully changed lanes to avoid obstacles.

This tense and exciting scene is at the Wuzhen PG, where a "high-speed scenario" is set up for the test vehicles.

This PG, located by the canal, was put into use during the 2022 World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit.

In the past two years, leading companies in the new energy vehicle industry have chosen to conduct safety scenario tests here. Last year, the center conducted Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) tests on more than 50 models.

"We set up simulated vehicles mounted on mobile chassis in the middle of the road to simulate the scenario where an intelligent connected vehicle on the highway encounters a stationary car and activates the automatic emergency steering function," said on-site test engineer Zhao Yongxin, standing on the board house of the test area, holding the controller of the simulated car, and keeping his eyes locked on the test site.

Not far away, the computer screen displays real-time data such as the speed, distance, and positioning of the test vehicle.

Don't underestimate just a few seconds of a single scenario test; it often takes dozens or even hundreds of times. "We will also simulate the avoidance test when a vehicle on the highway is about to collide with an oncoming vehicle," he revealed, adding that the speed of the simulated car will be increased to 50 km/h at that time.

On the other side of the "ordinary road scenario," vehicles are undergoing tests such as two-wheeler danger identification and braking, pedestrian sudden alert and evasive action, lane keeping, and other intelligent connected related scenario tests.

There are dozens of such facilities set up for the "exams" of intelligent connected vehicles in the Wuzhen PG.

"The daily test workload is very large, from morning to night," said the PG's task is to arrange the test items and times according to customer needs in advance, place the devices in the corresponding venues, such as simulated people, simulated cars, simulated bicycles, simulated electric vehicles, etc., and assist customers in completing the test execution quickly and accurately.

The PG is divided into the Urban AI Smart Traffic Experience Area and the Intelligent Driving Safety Performance Test Area, with a site area of about 100 acres and a test road length of about 5 kilometers, operated and managed by Zhejiang Digauto Automobile Technology Co., Ltd.

"The purpose of the test is to ensure safety and not to upgrade products at the cost of human life," said Li Xiaoying, General Manager of Zhejiang Digauto Automobile Technology Co., Ltd. This PG, built according to international standards, provides a good physical carrier for a variety of scenario tests, which helps vehicles to iterate and improve during testing.

Not long ago, the Hangzhou-Tongxiang-Deqing joint entity was selected as one of the first batch of "vehicle-road-cloud integration" pilot cities. Tongxiang proposed to build a "smart driving car city," and made every effort to promote the "vehicle-road-cloud integration" new industry city brand. As the permanent venue of the World Internet Conference, Wuzhen not only has geographical advantages but also has industrial chain collaboration advantages.

"In the future, we will base on the PG, continuously develop innovative test and evaluation technologies and standards for intelligent connected vehicles, establish a scenario database for complex urban conditions, and carry out training and testing services for functional safety, expected functional safety, and whole vehicle information security," said General Manager Li Xiaoying, adding that the company will provide safe operation services for intelligent connected vehicles in the construction of the Tongxiang City "vehicle-road-cloud integration" application pilot, and actively build ecological partners and application scenarios, to promote the development of Tongxiang City's intelligent connected vehicle industry with a complete application scenario, traffic data, and test environment.
